The Stromlo Leisure Centre is a brand new, state-of-the-art sports and recreation facility located in South Canberra. Parliament Constructions was engaged to construct ceilings, partitions, and acoustic panelling above the expansive pool areas.
The building includes curved 6-metre-high walls, a challenge made more difficult due to the extreme range of temperatures in the Stromlo area which needed to be combated with multiple expansion joints. Intricate ceilings and bulkheads with feature lighting are used throughout the building, as well as 250 square metres of beautiful timber slat ceilings around the perimeter.
We also installed approximately 1800 square meters of acoustic panelling above the pool. We worked extensively with the client during the planning phase to help them decide on the most suitable product and ended up using an environmentally friendly insulation which reduces echo and reverberation. When it was time to install the products, the pool area had been fully tied and the pool itself was full of water, meaning we had to make use of a scissor boom to negotiate through the space.
