Parliament Constructions was engaged to undertake both the demolition and refurbishment works at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet in Woden. The design pays homage to Australian timbers and Indigenous artworks created a warm and contemporary environment. A variety of different natural materials were incorporated, from Cypress pine to plywood, to hard and soft woods (either pre-milled or sawn on site). Curved walls, both glazed and gyprock, are featured prominently throughout the design, requiring a high level of technical precision from our tradesmen.
The unique design of this project provided an excellent opportunity for some of our junior apprentices to work alongside our more experiences carpenters. The technical complexity involved has enabled them to further develop their skills, learn new techniques and have a hands-on understanding of the capabilities of some of the materials used within the project.
